TECH 1:
RECOVERY LAB TECHNICIAN
WELCOME TO SSPT.
As a Recovery Lab Technician, you will be responsible for the conclusion of every single patient’s treatment, which is an extremely important job. A patient may have an excellent experience in all other aspects of his or her treatment for the day, but if the appointment ends poorly, the experience is instantaneously transformed from excellent to sub-par, or worse, poor. The end of the treatment is when each patient finally gets to relax. Their hard work during the rest of their treatment is rewarded with modalities that reduce pain, swelling, and just feel good, while relaxing in comfortable positions. BUT - these modalities and positions are only comfortable and relaxing if you make them so!
It is YOUR JOB to ensure that the conclusion of each patient treatment is rewarding, relaxing, relieving, and satisfying in every way.
This training module will provide you with the necessary information and teach you the necessary skills required to do your job, and ensure that each and every patient at SSPT leaves having had an excellent experience.
PATIENT CARE
-
RECEIVE THE PATIENT
You will receive the patient from either the Rehabilitation Specialist, Clinicians Assistant, or a Clinician.
-
MODALITY PRESCRIPTION
You will then ask the deliverer of the patient what modalities the patient will be receiving.
-
ADMINISTER THE MODALITY
You will then move forward with the recovery process by administering the correct modality.
• Before beginning, explain the modality process to the patient, then keep constant communication as you begin, this means asking permission before possibly placing modalities in sensitive areas.
-
BUILD A RELATIONSHIP
Once the recovery process has started, you need to converse with the patient in the appropriate manner. There are necessary things we must discuss with the patient:
• “How was your appointment today?”
• “How are you feeling?”
• “Do I need to adjust anything modality wise at this time?”
• “Can I get you anything?”
-
END OF MODALITY CUSTOMER SERVICE
Once process has ended, continue to ask questions to make sure patient is still comfortable with the process.
-
FINAL TOUCH: GUIDE TO RECEPTION AREA
When they are free of modalities, walk patient to clinical area exit and make sure they are aware of future appointments. If they have questions about this process, direct them to the front desk. End each conversation you have with a patient with a gesture and/or comment of appreciation for their attendance that day.
